Founders Liz and MaureenBirria1983 team

The story of Birria1983 unfolds amidst the challenging times of 2020, at the very heart of the pandemic. Maureen and Liz, the dynamic duo behind this culinary adventure, found themselves at a crossroads when they lost their jobs due to the global shutdown. Faced with uncertainty, they harnessed their entrepreneurial spirit and ventured into the world of cloud kitchens. Together, they embarked on a journey of culinary exploration, crafting homemade Chilean delights and sharing them with the world online. Despite their delicious dishes, orders were too few to keep their dream alive.

Undeterred, Maureen and Liz wore their resilience as a badge of honor, spending their days in the kitchen and their nights in the service of cleaning businesses to make ends meet. It was during this period of relentless pursuit that a glimmer of opportunity emerged through the trending phenomenon of birria on social media. Seizing the moment, they decided to create their own rendition of birria. To their astonishment, their birria quickly became a sensation, and orders surged beyond expectations.

Capitalizing on this newfound success, Liz and Maureen took their dream to the streets. They purchased a food truck, fixed it up, and continued to serve their now-famous birria. Their dedication and culinary prowess did not go unnoticed, as Birria1983 quickly garnered multiple accolades, earning the title of Orlando's best Birria Tacos.

Inspired by their journey and the support of the great people of Orlando, in 2023, the visionary couple set their sights on a new horizon—the opening of their own restaurant. Despite the hurdles that lay in their path, their unwavering determination and the alignment of fate paved the way for the opening of Birria 1983's Mexican Bar & Grill in January 2024, located on Church Street in the vibrant heart of downtown Orlando.

Maureen and Liz's story is a testament to the power of hope, resilience, and the magic that happens when dreams align. Birria1983 stands as a symbol of their journey, from humble beginnings to a celebrated establishment, reminding us all that even in the darkest of times, there's always light at the end of the tunnel.
